Mediterranean Gardens

Plants from the dry and sunny conditions of the mediterranean love our climate in Idaho. Many can withstand some of our cooler winters, too. Planting can be very informal with loose drifts of herbaceous plants, grasses and ground cover, while shrubs and trees provide height and structure. Seedlings can be left to grow between established plants. Color combinations of silver and purples make this garden style soothing and calm. I was able to visit La Louve, designed by Nicole de Vesian in France. In South Africa, I visited the mediterranean gardens around Stellenbach.
